Date Time Clock Widgets
When i found the Remote controls and the early mobile phones difficult to use. I felt i have to try to design user interface within a small footprint. This helped me innovate a Active or Dynamic GUI concept; as shown in the Ability to change the skins of the Audio Music player and Digital Alarm Clock. The metronome too see the other project in this profile. These were done around 2005-6-7. Both for elements on my site and gadgets.
Digital Alarm Clock Gadget - I also made a Virtual Web Gadget Alarm Clock Simulation that will demonstrate a Dynamic GUI in a Limited Facia Area.
Reduce the number of operations a user would do at achieve a purpose. Auto, Intuitive, Context Gui. When a Customer comes to buy Trousers, Take him to the Trouser Corner. Do not show Tuxedo option. The colors have good contrast and the text clearly visible.
A Highlighted reaction to user action. Tactile. Dynamic GUI, see in Gadgets above. GUI Elements appear only for that sequence of actions. No clutter. Menus if used, should not get stuck. Should not be fidgety, should not be menus at all if possible.
Any Device with Computing Abilities and an Integrated Screen of Size 7
Inches or more can be called a Pad, Tablet, Netbook, Laptop, Notebook
or Desktop according to the size and use.
In this Professional, Serious and Productive Work can be done.
The All-in-One Low Power Desktop PC or the Nettop clinging behind the
Monitor are the “Heir Apparent” of your Erstwhile Power Hungry Tower
The 14-15 inch Notebooks with or without being convertible to Touch-Tablet is the clear winning computing device.
Innovate Next Notepad
The Mousepad and Mouse have to be Integrated in the side of the keyboard. The Touchpad has to be replaced by some Invention.
We could slide a tray on the right of the Laptop, which becomes the
Mousepad or GesturePad. A low profile flat wireless mouse docked at the
bottom of the Laptop (wireless charging on dock) is removed and put on
the Pad. The Mouse is back …..life is much much better.
It could also be just a GesturePad as big as a mouse pad, A sturdy
thin unbreakable reinforced poly carbonate pad that slides into the
Notebook when not in use.
To use it, keep the entire palm on the pad and make Touch-Screen like
Gestures, The three main fingers all can tap to simulate
click/double-click and even the page scroll with middle finger.
An Embedded Device less than 5 Inches is a Portable Communication and
Gaming Device only. This is not good enough as a Computing Device.
What we now need is the GesturePad that slides from the right of the Laptop along with TouchScreen Laptops that have already arrived.
Here is an example how i feel a DTH portal can interleave with interactive optical/wireless networks on land.
Let us assume Simtel has a DTH Channel. They broadcast MS updates from
10.00 AM to 10.30 AM. Linux updates at 11.00AM and Mac at 9.00 AM. All
updates, some repetitive in gzip format and a advance xml feed
indicating and enabling parsing of content on a digital device.
From 1.00 PM to 5.00 PM is subscriber time. "Your favorite software is
'played' at these times". A user can use his phone or tablet to request a
media. paid or free. All software will be broadcast at the time slot.
With a xml feed/sitemap.
The user transfers the software from dth box to his computer using
usb/lan. If he has been mailed dual layer decrypt keys he will be able
to unzip the paid software. Else he can look thru the
formatted/presented xml for any free software/media he would like to
DTH software providers can monetize using software developers to
publicize their demo versions. Other firms from computers to toothbrush
providers can give a "Media Promotion Pack" with
wallpapers/freeware/video/audio/presentations and discounted/free
Auxiliary Software Media DTH Download Box - Reduce Net Congestion
# Either you connect the USB of this Download-Box to Router to make a
media server for your Netbooks & Tablets or plug it to your Desktop
# This has a Tiny LCD Touch Screen, Key in the URL & Press Get,
Wait. Media ready beep will come in a few secs. Satellite Delays don't
# Invent something like Satellite Software/Media Download DTH Service -
Small dish on Roof, A Stand alone Box with One Tera Byte HDD and USB.
The PC has much Evolved, From XT to AT, then from 286 to 586, the
evolutionary trend continues. The Speed: GHz, Space: GB and Software:
Linux-XP, have grown rapidly. The other vital things Interface,
Networking and Power Consumption moved a bit slower. So some suggestions
on the New Desktop for Small Office and Home Standard, that is crucial
in the present computing scenario. Enterprise Level Hardware and Software can be extrapolated from this
idea for a SOHO. An Enterprise is like a SOHO Cluster. One big
Homogeneous Entity is unstable and unreliable. When small varied,
self-dependent entities collaborate to form an Enterprise, it is a
Cluster of SOHOs, which is a Reliable and Resilient Entity.
A Green solution could be New Desktop Computing Standard - The quiescent
losses in this is only the wifi server cube, which can serve 6 tablets
So if 6-12 people are using computers, many desktops need not be on.
Tablets, Laptops and Notebooks consume less power and run on batteries.
Thin Custom Notebook and Tablet Clients can use one OpenOffice on the
WiFi Application Server cube

The Desktop Home Computer is the Wireless Router, Power Server.
SMPS Power Supply runs Both on 230V-110V AC and 12-24 V DC.
Home Wifi Computer, Application and Web Server is just a Cube.
Early Innovations on Landline Phones were Answering Machine, Music-on-Hold and Fax Machines. Later landmines were used for BBS and then DUN (Dial up Networking) Internet. Then came the Big Freeze.
My first data experience before the internet was Delrina WinFax. It helped one of my friends get a job in Europe too. A fax machine was expensive, a Gateway 2000 modem was not. (this modem took me first online at home)
Cable Internet, Broadband Internet and 3G etc. have pushed the Landline phone in a corner.
I am using Internet on my Landline and it is pretty good. This may not be affordable by all, as a PC or Laptop is needed and the extra Broadband charges. This is just using the same line. My LandLine phone still is UnEvolved.
What i am trying to say is .....Add SMS at least for all Landlines with no extra monthly cost other than the SMS cost. If Possible add a means of slow File Transfer like FAX. A USB port on this device below will do.
This will help many use Data on the Telephone lines without buying a PC or Fax machine. The SMS will be a Super Hit. Voice Mail can alo be done. No Internet required.
The most financially stressed families in the most remote locations can SMS and if possible send their JPG photo or resume over the Normal Phone Connection at only the extra cost of data transfer.
I got my a Landline a few days back, The phone was one with a LCD, It is a very nice phone with a large LCD, but i had trouble using the phone book, as i kept forgetting the sequence.
These Landline phones occupy a prominent position on the desktops of all offices. The CEO, Marketing Manager and Purchasing Officer; or even at the Canteen, we see these phones. The potential for marketing and advertising is good in these, as they are still popular in the office environment. A firm can show its flash presentation or a product catalog, when a customer waits for the despatch details of a product he ordered.
A Landline Phone also may be interesting with a touch screen and built in web browser. This phone can also have the option of WiMax, in areas where it is available.
This was posted around 2007-8 in a Blog Nomadic Computing and later in delabs Design Devices.
